some sad things, some good things

I am getting ready to leave town for a while. My father's widow sold the house and I need to go pick up his film equipment as she has no room. Not sure what I will do with it and it seems so early to have this stuff. Not just becasue he died only a few months ago, but also because of course, I shouldn't be inheriting this stuff for at least ten years. That was the way it was supposed to be.
It will be nice to see his place and his town and it will be hard too.

Anyway, I don't want to leave you with a sad post, so I thought this would be a good time to mention some of my tried and true Etsy merchants.

I will be taking Summersea's flower essenses with me on this trip.

I have a few of these and although I cannot say I am an absolute believer in flower essences, I like having the option. When things feel helpless, like you are too emotional, lacking inspiration or too scattered brained, you can use these lovingly created essenses and at least you feel like you are doing something for the situation. I like that feeling. Plus you can just tell Summersea loves making her herbal concoctions and that energy comes through.

I just recently got a couple new little creatures from Craftpaca, including a bear that looks a lot like this.
I love her creations, sweet little animals, they are adorable and inexpensive. I have a few myself, but I also buy groups of owls or hedgehogs and give them away, including them in mail order or birthday packages. She makes you whatever you want, too, so if you don't see the color you want, just ask.

On Sunday I finally put up some of my wall decals I got from One Up designs . I don't have a pic yet, this is theirs. They were pretty easy to put up and they look great. I want to get more decals! I just with I had more walls!

Well, I hope you all have a good week and a nice Labor Day.

New Cards

I don't really have a name for this card set yet. They are vintage fortune telling cards from the Forties. These images seem so passionate, so strong. They seem to me perfect for the best friends and loves. Any ideas for a title?

I have them up now in the shop! They are sold as singles or in the set of four.

to the post office

Last night I drove out to the post office by the airport so I could post all the packages. Of course I stopped by Ikea too. Man, Sunday night at Ikea is depressing. Half the stuff I was looking for was sold out.

Anyway, I am glad to say that all the orders from this week are on their way to you. Thanks to everyone for ordering! Here is a not so great phone picture of the happy little packages.

zine action

Getting prepared for the zine symposium is a skill that becomes more defined each year. I do not go around the country and do other sympoisums like some do. Once a year (well, twice if you count the handmade bazaar) is enough for me.

Here is a picture of my symposium kit.

My ponyboypress lunchbox filled with the essentials, small things like a container filled with my buttons, the magnets I sell (that go on the lunchbox), display stands, business cards and pencil case filled with pens, markers, tags, tape, ect.. There are many things you need to be all set. Saturday morning I left home with out this important lunch box. I had to go back and get it.

Here is a shot of my table from Saturday morning. All yellow and green!

I took some of the boxes I always use for zines and covered them in this vintage adhesive paper I have. I got it at an estate sale years ago. It was unused. It is awesome looking, easy to use and totally repositionable!

I love all the suggestions on the backing for what you can use it for. It recommends using it to cover practically everything including counters, lamp bases, coffee tables, painted furniture, radios and televisions!

getting ready

Here's a pic of some new cards I am working on. I will have some at the zine symopsium this weekend and will see how people like them Look for some in the shop in the next week or so.

I found these playing cards at an antique store and I have no idea what the game was or how it works, but the images are so striking to me. I have sort of been holding on to them, waiting for the right thing to use them on. Making them into cards seems a natural since the themes are so strong and personal.

Getting all packed up for the weekend. Yay for zines!

And since I was taking pictures, here is one of my magnet board.

Hope to see you this weekend!

I dropped the new issue of Figure 8 off at the printer last night. I have never had someone do it for me before, but it actually ended up being cheaper to have Kinkos print and staple 300 then for me to do it myself at Kinkos. Usually I use the IPRC or this copy lady I know, but at this time of year in Portland, both those options are way to stressful - pluse someone else does it for me!

I was so excited to drop it off, but when they took it away it felt weird and unsettling not having it in my posession. Not being abale to handle it myself, to be able to reglue pages as they come off and make sure it all works myself. I still do it the old-fashioned way, so there is only one copy. This seperation anxiety suprised me.

Hope you all come by the zine symposium this weekend. I will post the cover and have the new issues of Figure 8 in the shop next week.
