The shelf that etsy built

I want to show you this shelf in my bedroom. I love looking at it. Sometimes I stare at the portrait of Mr Fox and imagine he is my ancestor. Or I think about what he was doing before he took that portrait. I have decided that this was his first grown up professional portrait and that he had just started a job as a bank clerk and was currently courting the future Mrs Fox.

I also like to look at the animals in my little forest, the underground ones and the above ground ones. The scale is a little off, but I don't mind. Those wood and silver things are actually curtain finials from Ikea. I wasn't ready for them yet, so we put them there and I decided they are the gates to the National Forest. (When I was a kid, it always was so exciting when you would enter the National Forest and pass by the gate and stop at the booth to pay or get pamphlets or whatever transaction my father did there). Anyway, here is my shelf:

Everything on it (except thermometer thingy, of course) is from an Etsy seller.

Mr Fox from marmeecraft
Animal stuffies, except for teal fox, from craftpaca
Mt Frostie mountain from Plants and Animals
Teal Fox (his head got cut off, sorry) from runamok
Tree from Little Odd Forest (I got this years ago, before Etsy, even. I love it. It used to be the only thing up there.)

Well, now I am going to go do some printing and while I watch Everyone Loves Raymond. That is my favorite rerun lately. More pillowcases soon!

heart on your sleeve

Every once in a while I buy a patch, sometimes a handmade screened one, sometimes the kind you get at vacation spots. I really like them, but I never sew them on anything. I keep wanting to, but I am note sure how it will look. Would it work on a hoodie? Where else do people put them? I am never quite sure. But, I really like them and keep collecting them. I think one day I will just sew them all on to the same hoodie.

I have some screenprinted ones that I imagine sewing on to the bottom of skirts or pants. A while ago after I printed some groundhog stuff I had extra ink, so I used it all up on some linen I had nearby. Now, I am selling patches, too. You can see the groundhog patches here.

I was really taken by these patches by locallibrary. I can't imagine what I would be so bold to put on there and sew to my clothes (I mean, I can't even commit to a patch with a squirrel on it!) but I really would love to see what others do with it. What would you write in?

Here is one of the patches I have that I haven't committed to yet. So awesome from Phoebe1.
I got mine at the Handmade Bazaar last summer.

The vintage patches are great, too. I really like the designs and colors. The like the tourist ones or the ones for clubs, the worker ones are good, too, and of course some of the boy scout girls scouts. I have some really old ones like that of my Mom's that are really neat. Sirkus Vintage has a good selection of vintage patches. I like this one.

And, this one is awesome! I suggest you snatch it up.

confession

I have a problem.

I am overly involved with Vista Prints.

The other day I got a slew of things, all "free" except for the cost of shipping.

Last night as I was packing up the groundhog napkins I recently sold (yay! So glad people like these), I realized I need a card that has washing instructions. I checked my email today and of course there was a free offer from Vista Prints. So, now I have that and a couple other note pads with the shop names on them. I totally have a problem. But, at $5.00 and $10.00 a pop, I am not going to get too worried about it.

Here is my new insert:

pretty things

I think I may have mentioned this before, but I have been craving pretty things lately. Not cute things, but pretty things. It seems to have started with winter and the new Victoria magazine and having tea parties. Lately I find myself longing to look at girly intricate pretty things. I think it is mostly winter. The trees looks like lace, all the branches entwined against the grey sky. Winter always makes me feel more old fashioned, if that makes any sense at all. It makes me long for those things. The cold weather makes me want hot tea and the promise of valentines, all pink and pretty, are a nice thing to think about.

Although this is even a little too pink for my current desires, I have to say it is a lovely piece for a nice afternoon tea. And what a great idea. From hillspeak

And here is a nice pack of lovely Valentines goodies. All together this just makes such a nice picture. Perfect for those homemade cupcakes. From abelemporium

And this paper lace is so pretty from brookerpie. I just got some in terra cotta. I have no idea what I will do with it, but I will hopefully find some way to show it off. Good for Valentine making.

Does winter affect your style and what appeals to you?

fern bedroom

As you may know, I have been kind of obsessed with decorating my bedroom in yellow and green. I have lived in this apartment for the two years now and it is slowly coming together, although a little different than I first imagined. When I was a kid my bedroom was yellow and green with daisies and I wanted to make it like that, all seventies style with ferns, too. I wasn't sure where this sudden need for these colors and motifs came from, but I didn't really question it.

Almost a year ago I ordered some wall decals from oneupdesigns on Etsy. He created the fern design because of my request. I didn't put them up for months and months. I don't recommend this. I think they were a little harder to get off the paper because I took so long. Anyway, I finally got them up a few months ago. Today I woke up to a sunny day! It has been a while here in Portland. I opened up my blinds and realized that now was a good time to finally take a picture of them.

Christmas Eve my family had a slide show and was shocked to see this photo of myself sleeping in my bedroom. I didn't even conscientiously remember having fern wallpaper! I had totally forgotten about it. Interesting. By the way, this wallpaper is rad and I wish I could have it now. But, I would rather have our dog, Nuthin'. He was the best!!

cheese mice

Today I put on a tea party for a friend and myself. We ate lots of goodies and drank lots of tea. Hope I can get to sleep tonight.

This was one of my gifts from her. Vintage Cheese Mice! As it says on the box, great for serving hor'dourves, especially cheese! They look as though they have never been used. They were made in Japan. I love them!

time keeps on going

Happy New Year to all of you. I hope you had a good one. Yesterday, I decided to break down and get one of these clocks that I have been eyeing for a few months. They are so wonderful. You can get them at decoylab's Etsy shop.

Another little Etsy find I got recently was this little doll from DawnAliceDesigns.
It is small and very sweet. I got a pair of them for a Christmas Present as well.

I hope 2008 will be a great year for all of you. I am looking forward to more time to do some sewing projects, to put out a couple of zines and to do some gardening in my little box of dirt.

Sharing is Caring
